The Italian Flower Festival! |
Anyone travelling to Rome on the
second week of the month of May, may be lucky enough to be present at
one of the most colorful events of the boot shaped country. Infiorata, the flower festival.
The tradition harks back to 1778, and every year local artist cover an
entire street with flower carpets illustrating detailed drawings by
flower.
The festival begins about 2-3 days
before the main event, which involves picking millions of flowers. Until
then, they are prepared and grown in caves near the city. About a month
after the festival begins, children are allowed to run out and destroy
the flowery carpets in a show of childish glee.
